WHERE ARE THE PARENTS

19 08 2012

I’m sure it is just me, but I am wondering where in the heck all the parents have gone. I read in the papers, hear on the radio and see on the television that the whole community is gathering together to provide for all those things that the children need to start school.  They emphasize that the child must feel wanted, loved, and happy in order to start the new school year. This means he needs all the school supplies packed in a backpack.  And he needs a new haircut and school clothes and whatever else he might want.  And all this is provided happily by the community.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I am not against any of this. I agree with this wholeheartedly.  It does help the child to get a good start in school for the coming year.

But my point is – where in the heck are the parents of these children.  I know not everyone is out of work.  And besides, if they are willing to work, they can find something to do to earn a little bit of money, enough to provide for their child to start to school.  Why are those parents not providing for their own children.

Believe me, I know what it is like to be flat broke over and over again.  And yet, somehow, some way, my husband and I always provided for those children to start to school.  And ours went to the parochial school where we had to buy uniforms, too.  And when I was really broke, we would eat frozen food that had been stored before we were so broke and buy one uniform for each child. Then I would wash and iron this one uniform each afternoon so they could wear it again the next day and the next and the next.

My parents provided for us also.  My father used to complain about having to pay the fees the schools assessed each family for those supplies we used at school. He said he paid taxes that were supposed to provide for that since public schools were supposed to be free for each child.  And he definitely had a point but that is another subject.  My point is that the parents should be providing for their own children these days just like we did before.

Instead, there is so little learning done in the public schools these days that most of those parents cannot keep a checkbook or even keep up with their own cash.  They do not pay their bills.  They do not provide even food for their children.  Why.  Why.    Why.  Is this but another example of what the 1960’s and its terrible behavior did to us?  And it has been handed down in the generations of those who will not work, will not try, will not provide for their own?

It is time for all these handouts to stop. It is time to require those parents to provide for their own children.  Instead, they are providing for themselves and let the community, i.e. government, provide for their offspring.  I don’t think so.  It is not the business of the government to provide.  It is the responsibility and the job of those parents to provide for their own children.  Period.  It should be required from each of them constantly, every day, until they get the idea of what responsibility means.  Evidently they do not know the meaning of the word.  It is Time!!!!

No child should grow up thinking that he gets his food from the school, his haircut free, and his school supplies provided with no input from his parents.  I personally think all this free stuff should be charged to the parents and they should be required to pay before they eat out, buy something shiny at the store, and buy more  drugs.  As is said, if you are willing to put up with this, then you can expect to put up with this.  Hopefully, the new administration of Romney and Ryan will put a stop to this behavior.  I certainly hope so.

Vote Republican this time around.  Our very existence as a free country depends upon your vote.  Vote Republican!

WHY NOT A VOTECH SCHOOL

13 07 2012

I read in the papers every day about how much a college education costs.  It is absolutely ridiculous as far as I am concerned.  I never was an advocate of a college education.  When I was growing up, no one went to a four year college except those wanting to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer or teacher.  And even the teacher did not have to attend college.  She could go right into the school and learn on the job if they needed her.  And I had some really, really good teachers when I was a youngster.  I received a top notch education in that 12 years between first grade and twelfth grade.  And when I graduated, I was immediately hired in a good job and with a good salary.  Whether anyone wants to admit it today or not, this is the ultimate goal – to have a good job with a good salary.

Nowadays, young people waste a lot of years going after that stupid degree that will not get them a job no matter what they do.  A person should look into the job market first and then decide what degree they want to pursue.  For instance, I would not want to spend my life every single day doing something I really hated.  I had a friend who went to college for four years, got a degree in accounting, went to work and that lasted perhaps a month.  She hated it.  Then she returned to school and became a principal of an elementary school.  Why not check into that possibility first before all that valuable time is wasted.

I raised very successful children and none of them have a college degree.  They didn’t want to waste those precious years going to college.  They wanted to get on with their lives and all did exactly that.  They all had the opportunity but when they got into the college life, they found themselves very bored.  They wanted to get some actual experience.  One of my daughters had been working as a sales person for several years and said her friends were just then coming out of college and having to compete to get a job and then obtain  the experience she already had.

College did not become a popular thing to do until the 1960 crowd took over the parks and recreation areas of this country.  They were lazy and not interested in working on any level.  So they depended on their parents and went to college.  Or else they entered college in order to evade the draft.  So college became a very popular thing to do.  Lots of people followed.  Why not.  It was an easy life, one with no responsibilities, and no real interests in having a better life.  If they whined enough, someone would provide them with something anyway.  So, they drifted and some are still drifting.  Some are on the streets, some in detention facilities, and a few have made the turnaround and managed to get a job and have a decent life.

But why not just avoid all that to begin with.  Enroll or help your children enroll in a Votech School.  There, all kinds of degrees are available. I have one in my family who is learning to be a technician doing ultra-sound technology.  Good salary, too.  Another neighbor became a nurse recently, after going a very short time to a Votech School.  Why waste four precious years.  Plumbers, electricians, and all related fields can be learned at a Votech.  Cost is a lot less too.

One of my children prefers to hire Votech trained workers as they are more willing to work and have more practical experience and want to learn, learn, learn.  This is the point you know.  An employer wants to hire workers who are interested in learning their job and doing it correctly.  And they want someone who will come in on time and work the full day for a full day’s pay.

As I said, This is the point.  A good job at a decent salary to have a good life.  Why not look into attending a Votech.  You might be glad you did.

OK WHAT NOW!

12 07 2012

So many things going on all the time these days.  And most of it just makes me plumb sick.  For instance, the media has made such an issue about the NAACP booing Romney.  I was taught when I was growing up that nice people don’t BOO.  No matter what you thought of the issue or the person or whatever was going on, you were taught not to BOO!  That was simply bad manners.  So, that could have been and should have been handled in a much more civilized manner.  And the media should not be pushing the story, either.  That is also simple bad manners to promote such behavior.  No wonder our children don’t know what good manners are.

And then there is so much going on behind your back these days.  And most people pay no attention whatsoever.  They don’t even realize their country is being taken away, a bit at a time.  Every day.

For instance, this low interest rate that has been going on and on and on.  Supposedly it is supposed to help us.  HA!  That is interesting.  And, of course those in charge know exactly what they are doing, but most of the people in the country do not.  When the interest rate is held at this low rate, it destroys capital.  Period.

We are a capitalistic country and proud of it!  But as they hold the strings so tight on capital, the capital gradually disappears.  As example, a person has saved a dab of money for their old age, hoping to invest it in whatever will bring them a little income.  But there is no interest paid these days on any investments.  So they cannot buy Money Markets or C.D.’s or Bonds.  Because the interest return on them is not worth the risk they would have to take.  So they sit on their money and as they do this, their money gradually disappears.  Soon, it will be worth much less than it was a year ago or even two years ago.

If a town wants to build a school, for example, they would float a bond issue and then sell those bonds and pay a fair amount of interest to the investor.  And then the investor would have a little more money to put in his bank account, maybe even enough to buy his groceries.  And the overall result for everyone would be great.  Because as the school is built, this provides jobs for lot of people.  Then they in turn can buy goods at the local stores and this helps the economy for the whole town.   And then this grows until it provides even more jobs and more money for people as spendable income.

But those in charge these days are holding the money strings very tightly and not allowing anyone to pay any interest on any investments and so the money dries up, slowly but surely.   And do you know what that does to capitalism?  It destroys it slowly but surely and very soon, we will become a socialistic nation and won’t have anything to say about any of it.  And then people will wonder what happened to our capitalistic country.

So now you will know what has happened to our capitalistic country.  It was because of the money handlers, those in charge of the money  that are running our country into the ground these days.  And it is being done while they moan and groan about how the recession might come back if they pay more interest.  BULL!

Also, they moan and groan some about inflation, too, and that is another ruse.  Inflation can be controlled with a few caps here and there.  So there would be no runaway inflation if they raised the rates a little.  At the current rates, everything is stopped dead still.  Our country cannot move.  It cannot grow and it cannot progress.  This is a simple fact.  And so it is dying slowly but surely, just a little bit at a time.  And nobody even knows it is going on because the ones in charge are masters of deceit.

All this hurts the investor, of course, but it also hurts the banks and the schools and the homeowners and all our families and everyone else who has a stake in this wonderful, marvelous capitalistic country.  Pay attention!  Vote Republican in November and watch this country begin to grow again.

VOTE  REPUBLICAN  for our country’s sake!

SOME DAYS

9 06 2012

This has been one of those days when I should have just stayed in bed.  Nothing went right all day long.  Real bummer.  But somehow I will survive.  I always do.

Even the weather did not cooperate much.  It was cloudy most of the day and humid and sticky.  I mostly just stayed inside.  Wasn’t worth the effort to go out anyway.  Nothing out there but bugs and more bugs for me.   I did go to the dollar store and the bank and the post office and that worked out pretty well.  Nothing to report on and that is a blessing.   And I did empty out my box of Valentine candy today so guess that is a step forward.  But now I will be looking for another piece of chocolate after my meals.  I really do enjoy those.  Both.   The meals and the chocolate.

My children were all busy with their families.  One was watching tournament baseball because she had children playing.  Glad that was her and not me.   I have done my share of ball fields.  Don’t miss that one at all.

Another was traveling.   Glad I wasn’t doing that one either.  Have done my share of traveling and have no desire to do it anymore.  I have been all over the world and thoroughly enjoyed all of it.  But now I can see it all in my mind and I am happy with just memories and not having to wait in lines and sleep in plane seats and wish I was home.

Another was buying feed for his cows.  He really enjoys all that. Glad that is him, too.  Don’t want any more animals.  I think I had at least 51 dogs over the years.   Every time one passed away, we had another within a couple of weeks.  Never a letup from that.  And, did I tell you that dog fleas really like me.  I must have something really special about me because all bugs really appreciate it when I come around.  Had to even wear a flea collar around my ankle one year just so I didn’t itch all the time.  Drove me nuts.  Glad that is all over.  I never go out into the woods or even into the fields.  So I couldn’t have a cow anyway unless he stayed in the back yard.  Neighbors might not like that one.  Oh well, can’t have everything.

My grandchildren are all busy, busy.  Don’t wish I was their age either.  It is nice to sit back and watch them progress in their lives.  Everyone seems to be doing great and for that I am most grateful to Almighty God.   He has more than blessed this family of mine.  I thank Him every day.

Well, that is about all today.  Hope tomorrow is a much better day.  Nothing seriously wrong, just stuff.  Always stuff and more stuff.  For instance, was going to cook a ham today and have it for tomorrow night, but forgot to put it in the oven.   I didn’t want to heat up the kitchen tomorrow, but guess I will have to.  So it will be cooked tomorrow to have tomorrow night.  Hope I don’t forget again.  But I’m still watching Scooby Doo around here so it is easy to forget a simple thing like cooking a ham.

Oh well, another day.

DEAR GOD: WHAT HAPPENED TO HONESTY

12 03 2012

Every day, I pick up the paper and it is full of stories about how wonderful all is here on the homefront. Lie!  Then I turn on the television news and hear the same thing again.  Lie!  Do you remember when the President made his first State of the Union speech and the Congressman called our ‘You Lie!’  Well, he was right.  They all lie – over and over again.  This is to make us vote for the Democrats.   Not me, Not me, Not me, ever again!

This past week, I have heard at least a thousand times about how great, grand and wonderful the job market is right now  Seems that unemployment is only about 8.4% or could be 8.7%.  Have forgotten the exact number, but doesn’t make any difference anyway.  The point is that it is supposedly better than it was under Bush.  No way!

When George Bush was President, the unemployment rate was at 4.6% in 2007.  Half what it is now.  And remember, please remember that with this present administration, it has been as high as 10%.  Never forget those figures.  And, during George Bush Presidency, there was 52 Straight Months of Job  Creation.  That set a record never heard of before.  Don’t forget that one either.

The current President was out campaigning this past week and his remarks were about how those who came before him caused all our problems and we should not forget that.  In fact, he even stated in the State of Texas that ‘they think we have amnesia.  They think we have forgotten what happened before’.  I ‘m not ever going to forget.  The Republicans that came before were the ones who made this Country great.  The Democrats are the ones who tear it down, piece by piece and give it away under the crooked cover of being nice and civil while lying.

The Democrats have a history of lying about everything.  The media lies constantly in every story put out.  Just like last week, the big story was the dog that was found in the dumpster and had been skinned.  Oh, the media carried that story in big columns and over and over again.  Then when the ‘dog’ was found to really be a coyote that someone had put there, the media barely mentioned it in all the news stories.  You might even have missed that one.  Sure wasn’t on the front page where the story had originally been.  Cover it up, don’t tell the real story, and keep that lie going, no matter what it is.

My mother always said, ‘If you tell the truth the first time, then you don’t have to worry about what to say the next time.’  Always works.  Always has.  Always will.

Dear God:  What Happened To Honesty?   Media and politicians had a better story.   And besides, everybody does it.  Everybody lies, you know.  Except for those that don’t.  And there a lot of us out here who think lying is wrong and we don’t do that.  And we don’t tolerate  any gray areas in our lives.  We try to live  the way we are supposed to.  Every day, all day long.   Works every time.

DEAR GOD:  PLEASE PUT HONESTY BACK INTO THE WORLD.    THANK YOU!

DEAR GOD: THANK YOU FOR THE RIGHT TO MAKE UP OUR OWN MINDS

28 02 2012

To me, this is one of the most important things in life – the right to make up our own minds – about everything.  Almost nowhere in this world do people have this right.  And it is one we take for granted every single day.  We can like a product or not.  We can choose to buy it if we like it.  Or we can simply forget all about it.  We can decide who we want to like and who we want to talk to and who we want to be friends with and how deep that friendship might be.

For instance, I may not like my neighbor and I don’t have to feel bad about that.  He may not like me either and it doesn’t matter.  We can still be friendly.  That is our right.  This is one of those God Given Rights, the right to be ourselves.  And we have the right to live by our own convictions.  W don’t have to agree on politics or even the weather.  This is strictly up to us as individuals.  Be thankful you have this right.

I really did like George W. Bush as our President and thought he did a very good job considering what he faced both in his earlier years and after 9/11.  But then I was talking to a lady who was more liberal than I am.  I could not believe the venom that leaked  out of her mouth as she talked about George Bush and his Presidency. I could not believe the trash she had heard from the media and had believed. I searched and found the truth for myself.  So I could make up my own mind.

The day the Democrats took over the Congress was January 3, 2007.  That was the start of the 110th Congress. The Democrats now controlled a majority in both chambers, the House of Representatives and the Senate.  This was in the middle of George Bush’ second term in office.  After that time, everything went downhill.  George Bush had set a record of 52 straight months of job creation!  The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77, the GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5% and the UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WAS A MERE 4.6%   I haven’t heard anyone blame that on Bush!

But then, Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.  And that was the end of prosperity as we knew it at the time.  After Barney Frank and Chris Dodd got their hands on the financial and banking, we went straight down to a crisis.  They dumped at least 5 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac since they were in charge.

Meanwhile, Bush asked   17 TIMES  to stop Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac because they were becoming financially risky for the U.S. Economy. But the Democrats did not listen and the country fell on hard economic times.  The DOW Jones fell dramatically.  The Unemployment Rate shot up to almost 10% at one time and the GDP lost its footing.   The banks were pushing people into loans they could not afford.  For instance, if a couple wanted a loan for a $100,000 house, they would be told they could afford one for $200,000, so why not.  They could do all this with no money down and live that good life beginning today. Everyone could qualify, too.  Just ask and it is yours.

We bought our first house for $10,000. In order to get a loan from the FHA, we paid $1,500 as our downpayment. This made us more appreciative of what we were buying and believe me, we weren’t going to take on more payments than we could afford.  We were lucky to be able to do that much, not more.

At that time, the Congress was voting the DEMOCRAT way.  And those Democrats fought against reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  If it was hurting our country, so what.  We can always blame it on Bush later.  Meanwhile, we can act like we don’t know what happened.  Well, what happened was a lot of crooked, under handed foolery that cost a lot of people their homes and their livelihood.

The media was falling in line as usual, too, praising the Democrats and bullying President Bush. When President Bush left office after two terms, the deficit in this country  was the lowest in five years, and we had low, low  spending. After that, the Democrats took over the spending and you can see where we are today.

Yay!  George.  Wish he was back again.  Maybe then, we wouldn’t have to contend with all this economic mess we have had to deal with since the Democrats took over.  Maybe we wouldn’t have to put up with any more people like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.  Maybe, just maybe, there could be a time again when people are honest and forthright in their dealings with each other.

I sure hope so.  Meanwhile, Thank You, Dear God for allowing me to make up my own mind.

DEAR GOD: I’M STILL ASKING FOR HELP

16 02 2012

I mentioned about the 1950’s last night and have remembered more about them today.  As I said, they were really good years.  Everyone was progressing and life was good for most people.  By now, we had the outdoor patios and the cookouts and the neighborhood get togethers.  It was a good time to be a young parent.

We had already lived through the War years and seen that horrible War come to an end.  I am always in awe when I read in the papers today that 2 or 3 men were killed in the latest War or that 20 were killed in a bombing.  In World War II years, the headlines read that 20,000 were killed in this battle or 15,000 in another battle.  If you don’t believe those statistics, make a trip to France and see the never ending white crosses in the cemeteries where our young men were slain and buried.  A horrible, horrible time.

But now things were going to be better and different.  Why even the new cars were coming out with all those fancy gadgets on them and those paint jobs were unbelievable and just look at that wrap around glass.  No one had ever even dreamed of such things before.  But progress was here.

After decades of a Democratic President and staff, it was refreshing to finally have a Republican in the White House.  Now things really would be different and better.  Right after we get over all the shortages created by the War years.  Eisenhower had been elected now and everyone was wearing the ‘I Like Ike’ buttons because they were so happy that things were going to be better.

During the Eisenhower years, all these wonderful new interstate highways were built all across our nation.  Now, families like mine could drive all over the country and actually see those sights we had heard about all our lives. Made it possible for the whole family to be canned in a station wagon.  The new theme parks were popping up because now people could actually go see them, not just hear about them.  And the price of gasoline was so low it was never even mentioned.  Why, we could even drive everywhere and sleep in a brand new motel, too.  The motels along the highways popped up everywhere. And now there were drive in restaurants along those same highways. It was truly a wonderful time for all.

But that drum was beating louder and louder everywhere.   There was trouble brewing in various ways.  People had so much in the way of goods and money to spend and happiness was bound to stay.  But that didn’t happen.  Now, the child experts began to tell everyone how to raise those children.  Thank Heavens, my children were all too young to be considered Baby Boomers.  And I was so happy that I was not one of those mothers.

Things had changed for them, too.  The doctors had all decided that mothers did not need to breast feed their children anymore.  So now, mothers  were taught to make formula.  And were given a shot that dried up the milk that their bodies   provided for that new baby.  And this way, mothers would not gain any weight, nor have laps that mothers had always had before.  It was just like being a teenager forever.  And those same mothers were expected to act young forever, too.

Now there were more appliances to help with the housework.  There were those new fangled washing machines that actually did all the work.  All we had to do was put the clothes in, add the detergent, push a button and leave the room.  Dishwashers had come onto the scene, too.  Not standard yet, but getting there.  And disposals that eliminated the ever present garbage. But we were still hanging those clothes outside on the line.  Dryers were also just around the corner.  And then someone invented the no iron fabrics and the polyesters and the wrinkle free stuff.  So now we didn’t even have to iron every afternoon as we had been doing before.

Why, mothers were almost unnecessary these days.  That house could almost run itself.  And the kids were happy with all their newer toys and friends.  What was a mother to do?  But then someone thought and said – why that young mother can just go to work.  She can make a lot of money and pay someone else to raise her children.  Why should she be stuck in that house all day when the world was moving all around her.  And she looks so good, too.  Why, she can buy all the new clothes she wants and be social all the time.  Hot Dog!  What a wonderful life she will have.   Back in those 1950’s.
