HOPE AND CHANGE

9 08 2012

We have all heard a million times about hope and change.  Don’t really know what that means.  It took $68 to fill my car with gas this last weekend.  Guess that means I hope, I hope, I hope that changes soon.  Or maybe it means that I no longer get any change from my dollar bills.  Not sure which it means.

I just hope that the change is that those who know the business start drilling for oil in this country so we can have some good, cheap gasoline in the next couple of years.  That shouldn’t be too hard to do.  There is enough oil below the ground to last us all the rest of our lives.   Why are we not using it!  It is time.  I am tired of hearing about the animals that we need to protect.   I’m sure you have seen the bears on the television screen who are so over-abundant that they are stealing candy from the candy store.  It is time to quit all this nonsense and get the good old U.S.A.back to being the country it has been for a long, long time.   Time for everyone to get up in the morning, put their shoes on and go to work.  Time to stop being important and go home and raise a family.  Time to start teaching the children what life is all about and that means responsibility, responsibility, responsibility.

Maybe that is what is meant by the term, Hope and Change.  Sure hope so.  We sure do need some change.

OK WHAT NOW!

12 07 2012

So many things going on all the time these days.  And most of it just makes me plumb sick.  For instance, the media has made such an issue about the NAACP booing Romney.  I was taught when I was growing up that nice people don’t BOO.  No matter what you thought of the issue or the person or whatever was going on, you were taught not to BOO!  That was simply bad manners.  So, that could have been and should have been handled in a much more civilized manner.  And the media should not be pushing the story, either.  That is also simple bad manners to promote such behavior.  No wonder our children don’t know what good manners are.

And then there is so much going on behind your back these days.  And most people pay no attention whatsoever.  They don’t even realize their country is being taken away, a bit at a time.  Every day.

For instance, this low interest rate that has been going on and on and on.  Supposedly it is supposed to help us.  HA!  That is interesting.  And, of course those in charge know exactly what they are doing, but most of the people in the country do not.  When the interest rate is held at this low rate, it destroys capital.  Period.

We are a capitalistic country and proud of it!  But as they hold the strings so tight on capital, the capital gradually disappears.  As example, a person has saved a dab of money for their old age, hoping to invest it in whatever will bring them a little income.  But there is no interest paid these days on any investments.  So they cannot buy Money Markets or C.D.’s or Bonds.  Because the interest return on them is not worth the risk they would have to take.  So they sit on their money and as they do this, their money gradually disappears.  Soon, it will be worth much less than it was a year ago or even two years ago.

If a town wants to build a school, for example, they would float a bond issue and then sell those bonds and pay a fair amount of interest to the investor.  And then the investor would have a little more money to put in his bank account, maybe even enough to buy his groceries.  And the overall result for everyone would be great.  Because as the school is built, this provides jobs for lot of people.  Then they in turn can buy goods at the local stores and this helps the economy for the whole town.   And then this grows until it provides even more jobs and more money for people as spendable income.

But those in charge these days are holding the money strings very tightly and not allowing anyone to pay any interest on any investments and so the money dries up, slowly but surely.   And do you know what that does to capitalism?  It destroys it slowly but surely and very soon, we will become a socialistic nation and won’t have anything to say about any of it.  And then people will wonder what happened to our capitalistic country.

So now you will know what has happened to our capitalistic country.  It was because of the money handlers, those in charge of the money  that are running our country into the ground these days.  And it is being done while they moan and groan about how the recession might come back if they pay more interest.  BULL!

Also, they moan and groan some about inflation, too, and that is another ruse.  Inflation can be controlled with a few caps here and there.  So there would be no runaway inflation if they raised the rates a little.  At the current rates, everything is stopped dead still.  Our country cannot move.  It cannot grow and it cannot progress.  This is a simple fact.  And so it is dying slowly but surely, just a little bit at a time.  And nobody even knows it is going on because the ones in charge are masters of deceit.

All this hurts the investor, of course, but it also hurts the banks and the schools and the homeowners and all our families and everyone else who has a stake in this wonderful, marvelous capitalistic country.  Pay attention!  Vote Republican in November and watch this country begin to grow again.

VOTE  REPUBLICAN  for our country’s sake!

DEAR GOD: THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING AGAIN

28 05 2012

We all live this really good life these days.  I don’t mean we are all rich or have everything, but if we try, we do have a comfortable life.  Before God allowed electricity to be invented, people lived an entirely different life than we do nowadays.  How would you like to go back to that time.  Not me.  I am spoiled and like it that way.

So when we were given the benefits of electricity, what would we ever use that for except for a light bulb now and then.  But then just look around.  Not only did people get a light bulb, but then other people invented all those ways to use those light bulbs.   Look in your own room or your own house and notice the lamps and the light fixtures and all those other necessary things of today.

And then think about the woman washing on a washboard and how after electricity, she could have a washing machine and after that, an automatic washing machine.  How fortunate for all of us.

And then, take a walk around your kitchen and look at all those marvelous machines that do everything in the world for you.  From the coffee pot to the garbage disposal and even the toaster.  Do you remember when all toast was made in the oven?    And it had to be planned so we wouldn’t heat the house up in the summer and we only had oven toasted bread in the winter.  That was a treat in itself.  Now, we just pop that bread  or whatever it might be in that slot in the toaster and it is done in a matter of moments.

But then in today’s world, we have these people running around telling us that we don’t need to use the electricity anymore.    I need to use my electricity. And I don’t see any reason why they should think they are in charge of how much electricity anyone gets to use. God gave us this great gift because it was in His time to give it to the world.  Simple as that.  God is in charge of everything, including even the most basic things.  He is the one who decides when we are given the computers and the internet and the automobile and all other amenities that we sometimes take for granted.  He is the one who uses the individual for His plans.  He knows what He is doing.  He will be the One who runs everything.  Not some person who decides they know what is best for this world.

It is God’s world.  I hope people will wake up and let God run His world.  All we have to do is live by His rules and this world can be a great place, one of peace and tranquility, and happiness for all.

You know,  I remember a time before all these problems arose during the 1960’s and that generation decided they knew what we should all do and how immorality should rein.  Remember the words – Forty years I loathed that generation and I swore in My anger, they shall  not enter into my rest.

Enjoy your electricity.   We are all so fortunate.  Thank You, Dear God for everything You have given to us.

DEAR GOD: THANK YOU FOR SO MUCH!

27 05 2012

Well, another holiday weekend about gone and am I ever glad.  I never did care too much for Memorial Day which was called Decoration Day before.  It just never was my favorite time of the year.  Everyone was so somber and sad and I didn’t care much for that part.

My father was a printer at the local newspaper and there was a printer’s plot at the very old local cemetery.  So, every year, we had to attend this somber,  long memorial service for these dead printers.  The cemetery was so old that it had broken grave markers and everything smelled musty and moldy and old.  But my father was very respectful of those who had gone before him and so we went, like it or not.  And we better not have any other plans and we better not complain either.

Usually, it was humid and uncomfortable weather and we had to get all dressed up special for this occasion. That meant Sunday School clothes all the way.  And then we sat on these very old benches that had rusty spots on them.  The whole day was just difficult to deal with.  But we were brought up to always have good manners and be respectful and kind.  So we smiled nicely and spoke to all those older people that we saw once a year.

A Preacher would make a small sermon and say a few prayers.  And then came the really special treat of  a quartet that sang several songs.  They were usually much older people who could not carry a tune in a bucket and they certainly had no harmony between them.  But they had a juice harp to sound out the note and then they would all sing, sometimes together.  We sat glued to our seats, not daring to look at each other for fear we might have to laugh or cry, never sure of which it would be.

When it was all over, we had to stand around while our parents talked to all their old friends and visited for awhile.  However, I wouldn’t mind getting to do that one more time.  Might be fun to see all those people again and sure would be nice to see my parents again.

Miss them all. And all those like them who worked so hard every day to have a better life for everyone.  And all those who taught us children all the manners and niceties of life and reminded us to be ladies and gentlemen no matter the situation.

I know this holiday is for remembering all those who have fallen in the quest to save our country.  And I respect and honor that myself.  I miss a lot of that patriotism that was so prevalent in that day and time too.  I still honor the flag every day at my home.  And I truly respect all this country has stood for all the years.  I miss the moral fiber that always held everyone together, the honor for the parents and the respect for Almighty God and the other things that made us all one big family belonging to this wonderful country.  I remember it all very well.  And I miss all that, too.  I hope we can all get back to that very soon.

Happy Memorial Day!

FOUND HIM!

5 03 2012

Guess what!  Found the perfect candidate for President for the next election.  Got an email listing all the things he would have done if elected.

First thing – Would have issued an Executive Order that grants Obamacare waivers to all 50 states.  And then go to the House and Senate Republican leadership and get them to submit full repeal legislation.    Yay!!!!

Next –   Approve the Keystone Pipeline   Hot Dog!!!!

Then – Ask the House and Senate to submit Fair Tax legislation and guarantee a vote in both chambers within 100 days.  Hooray!!!!!

Fourth – Ask Congress to submit and pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.  And then promise to travel to all 50 states to fight for its passage.

Fifth – Have a conference call with the four  Governors whose states border with Mexico and ask them to submit a comprehensive list within 24 hours of what they need to secure their border and then guarantee the federal government would help them complete the job within a time period.

Want to know who this person is that sent out this email?     It is Mike Huckabee.   Maybe, just maybe, if we all got together and begged and pleaded and then drafted him, he might run for that office and get this wonderful country of ours back on track.  Wouldn’t that be wonderful though?

Please, Dear God, Send us someone.  We sure do need him.

ME AND MY FLAG

30 01 2012

With one of the gift certificates I got for Christmas from my children, I  bought an American Flag.  It wasn’t expensive and is truly beautiful.  It is now hanging on my house and I am so proud every time I see it blowing in the wind.  I am proud to be a citizen of the wonderful United States of America and I find myself singing the National Anthem at times.

I have traveled all over the world and no one, anyone,  anywhere has the wonderful life that we as American citizens enjoy.  Why do you think all those aliens want to come here?  It is because we have the very best life in the world.  I don’t see anyone leaving to go anywhere else.  Never has been the case.  We have the greatest opportunities offered to common man anywhere in the world.  It is up to us to take advantage of those opportunities by working hard and building a decent life.

We can choose to be a baker or a typist or a writer or a machinist or a bus driver or anything else we might decide  suits our talents.   And everyone has talents, you know.  We  just have to learn to recognize them and feed and water them a little over the years and Bingo!  we have a job that suits us just fine. May not be the president of a bank or a securities whiz, but it will be a job we are proud of and one we can enjoy all the days of our working lives.

I do not understand why people complain about this country or anything in it. It is truly wonderful here!  Every time I land in the United States whether it is Los Angeles, or Atlanta or New York, I am filled with pride that I am a citizen here.  This is my country!  This is my home.  I truly love my country.  And I Thank God every day that I was born here.  What a wonderful blessing!

Now, if all the idiots in Washington will just leave it alone, we can all have a wonderful life in this great country of ours.  Hooray!  Gotta’ go look at my flag again.  It is so pretty.

REMEMBER WHEN

23 01 2012

It’s been cloudy, foggy and wet all day here.  Makes me remember when I was a kid.  My father was gone to the big War and it was always cloudy, foggy and wet every day that year.  Or at least that was the way it seemed to me.  Seemed like every day was dreary.  I remember standing on the corner waiting for the city bus and being cold to the bone  And it wasn’t a whole lot different at home.  Mother tried very hard to make us all happy all the time.  But some days it was just a losing battle.  We all smiled and laughed and tried to have a good day or a good week or whatever.  But it was still hard.

We all missed Daddy a whole lot.  He was always the happy one in the family.  He sang and whistled until he just drove us all crazy.  And he could really tap dance and would do that occasionally. We missed Daddy and his smiles and his fun all the time.  But we really didn’t talk much about it.  Didn’t do any good anyway. Was still cloudy and rainy and foggy outside.

I remember a lot about those days and the challenges of the family unit.  Not only in my family but in all those around us.  Everyone was involved in that War.  It wasn’t just a War of a few people.  It involved the whole country and in fact the whole world.  Mr. Roosevelt talked on the radio and we all listened.  We read the newspaper until it had almost no print left.

If you would like to know more about the 1940’s times and what it was like then to be in the middle of that family and that War and that life, then by all means buy my book entitled In The 1940’s.  Only $10 each with postage included.  Great book. Have had lots of good comments about it.  Everyone seems to enjoy it a lot.  Can order from Amazon or from me at P.O. Box 2249, Benton, AR  72018.  Just enclose that check or money order and I’ll get your book right out to you.  You will definitely enjoy it!  You can look up my books at booksbybet.com    Thanks, Bet

By the way tomorrow would be my father’s 106th birthday!
